In our daily lives, we encounter numerous situations and events that stir up negative emotions. Maintaining composure and inner peace during emotional upheavals is no small feat. Emotional stress is a universal experience, impacting us all at various points. Despite our efforts to keep a positive outlook, life’s challenges can sometimes weigh heavily on us.
When we’re thrown off balance emotionally, even simple tasks become daunting. Jobs we typically handle with ease, difficult individuals we usually manage, and stressors we normally navigate suddenly feel insurmountable.
The Struggle with Overwhelming Stress
Excessive stress, particularly when compounded by overwhelming responsibilities or multitasking, can leave us feeling confused and incapable. The sheer volume of tasks can easily overwhelm us, leading to a state of paralysis. Fortunately, there’s a technique we use in Systematic Kinesiology known as Mental Stress Release (M.S.R) that can significantly alleviate this overwhelm.
During periods of heightened mental stress, blood flow to the brain may become imbalanced, affecting cognitive function. When stress triggers fear, our ability to think rationally can be compromised as our body’s fight-or-flight response takes over. This can result in prolonged periods of clouded judgment and reasoning if the underlying stressors remain unresolved.
One common physical response to emotional distress is the instinctive gesture of placing hands on the forehead or covering the face with palms. This action targets specific points on the forehead called ‘Frontal Eminences’, which play a role in relieving emotional tension. The effectiveness of this simple gesture may surprise you.
Step-by-Step Guide to Mental Stress Release
Next time you experience a shock or distress, try this technique:
- Gently place the fingertips of each hand in the position of this natural gesture on the frontal eminences (as shown above), applying slight upward pressure toward the hairline.
- Hold this position for a couple of minutes while reflecting on the most challenging aspect of the issue.
- Breathe deeply and allow the difficult emotions to diminish.
For more serious or traumatic issues, it may be beneficial to hold the position for 10-15 minutes. Many individuals have found this Mental Stress Release technique (M.S.R) surprisingly effective in alleviating stress. So, the next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, give this simple technique a try!
