I often get asked “can kinesiology work for fibromyalgia?” When I first began my career over 3 decades ago fibromyalgia was not a named illness, although clients did come presenting with the same symptoms. I feel it has been around a long time, however over the last decade the number of cases have sky rocketed.
Fibromyalgia is a named condition which causes symptoms such as: pain all over the body, disrupted sleep, fatigue (often with brain fog), mind set and emotional ill health. However, from a holistic kinesiological point of view, it is not the fibromyalgia causing all this pain, as that is just a name for the symptoms.
The NHS website says:
“Anyone can develop fibromyalgia, although it affects around 7 times as many women as men.
The condition typically develops between the ages of 30 and 50, but can occur in people of any age, including children and the elderly.
It’s not clear exactly how many people are affected by fibromyalgia, although research has suggested it could be a relatively common condition.
Some estimates suggest nearly 1 in 20 people may be affected by fibromyalgia to some degree.
What is causing fibromyalgia symptoms?
There is always a reason for symptoms. They are the body’s only way of letting us know that things are not right within us.
From my experience with fibromyalgia it is simply a range of symptoms arising from the root cause of high inflammation (mainly from diet) that can no longer be managed by the body.
The main root causes…
- Processed Sugar – is the highest inflammatory substance, and did you know it is more addictive than coccaine? Sugar plays the biggest part in raising inflammation within the body. Being full of refined sugar is like having shards of glass circulating in your blood scratching, damaging and inflaming all the areas it passes through. Processed sugar is ‘sold’ to us as an energy giver, which it is, although VERY short lived and then we pay a BIG price when our bodies are forced to manage the influx. This influx stresses our digestion, hormones and pancreas. Here and there our bodies can cope. However, day in day out the body just can’t keep the balance, energy falls rapidly and inflammation rises.
- Wheat – (not always ALL gluten). Our daily bread, used to be low in gluten, high in Vitamin E and wheatgerm but now sadly it is a highly inflammatory food.
There are many reasons why most breads are no longer fit for our daily nutrition, including: most wheat is genetically modified to grow much shorter so that it can fit into the harvesting machinery and also to increase the ears on every plant. Crops are sprayed with pesticides many times during growth, and glyphosate before harvest, which is also a big contributory factor to the downfall of the health of the consumer. Wheat grown in the U.K. is also mouldy due to the weather and storage conditions which also adds to the problems.
Refined wheat products have a high glycemic index, which means they can cause your blood sugar levels to spike and cause inflammation.
Wheat has also been stripped of virtually all nutrients, has high levels of sticky gluten that literally glues us up, (remember making glue at school with flour and water?) causing our whole digestion huge amounts of work that zaps our energy and creates aches and pains all over the body.
Kinesiology can support with making diet changes
Interestingly, in my experience Fibromyalgia sufferers are often reluctant to cut these foods out 100% which may sound surprising as they have so much pain. Often they are living on these foods, enjoy them and don’t want to give them up. However, with Systematic Kinesiology we can also help with sabotage, change and new positive ways forward to get away from pain.
Although cutting these foods out may well help reduce the pain of fibromyalgia, the body needs to reset and restore and often a new mindset is needed.
Even with treatment, the full benefits will be felt after the foods have been completely cut out for a month and then the change happens.
Fibromyalgia and the stress factor
As we become emotionally stressed, worried, upset or feel pressured our bodies can also be effected in negative ways. Our immune system instantly lowers, our digestion slows down and inflammation increases. Therefore anything that affects our emotional state can produce unwanted symptoms within our bodies. Within Systematic Kinesiology we use emotional stress release techniques and remedies to help this part of the problem.
Systematic Kinesiology to the rescue
Not only can we test the foods mentioned above and other foods that may be relevant, we also help the body repair from the damage, find where particular imbalances are stuck around the body and give it the tools for the job of recovery, including the emotional support the body needs too.
From a Kinesiological point of view Fibromyalgia is a group of incredibly unpleasant debilitating symptoms that can be corrected in as little as 6 -8 weeks. The client needs to be ready and willing to make the suggested lifestyle changes and take the tools needed for the job to become free of pain.
